Associative development of suppliers of Camelids in Bolivia

The objective of this program is to design and implement a Supplier Development Program that will contribute to elevate the standards of quality, productivity and management of the supply companies of the COPROCA and develop Associative Projects
The objective of this program is to design and implement a Supplier Development Program that will contribute to elevate the standards of quality, productivity and management of the supply companies of the Camelids Producing Company S.A (COPROCA) and develop Associative Projects to identify and boost complementariness and synergy among the micro-businesses pertaining to the value chain.

The project worked towards developing the micro-businesses in tactically important points for the efficiency, quality and profitability of the entire productive framework.

The following activities were carried out:

• Development of a more proactive purchase mechanism.

• Improve the coordination and communication of COPROCA and its suppliers.

• Optimization of the productive process by adopting fair production measures.

• Improvement in the occupational health and industrial security conditions.

• Strengthening of the commercial processes.

• Improvement in the accounting costs system.

• Implementation of 5 Storing Centers.

• Designing of policies, processes/procedures and tools.

• Training the operators who will be managing it.

• Shape the Association of llama fiber processors.

• Sanitary technical assistance and common sicknesses.

• Technological transference on good practices for shearing.

• Technical assistance on prairie handling plans.

COMMERCIAL RESULTS:

• More than 30% increase in sales.

• Market participation rose from 10% to 13%.

• Complaints and protests decreased 20%.

• Response time to the market was reduced from 60 to 10 days.

RESULTS IN PRODUCTION:

• A monthly increase of 3 tons to 8 tons.

• An increase in the raw material received.

• Energy consumption was reduced in 3.33Kwh., per kilogram of thread produced.

• Production costs were reduced in more than 15%.

• Technical assistance and training was given to 433 livestock farmer families (animal health, prairie and fiber handling).

• Tools and supplies were provided (scissors, carps, medicines, syringe dispensers, seeds) by way of the storing centers.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESULTS AND INDUSTRIAL SECURITY

• 80% of the personnel were trained in the use of personal protection equipment and 100% in the handling of chemical products.

• 66% of the total solids were reduced, 97% of the total suspended solids and 21% of the dissolved solids.

• A water treated pool was implemented and working.

RESULTS IN THE SUPPLIERS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:

• 21 people trained in the tool handling for the administration of the storage centers.

• 2 initiatives of associtativeness were implemented (5 storing centers and 1 llama fiber processing association).
